The first 12″ from One A.M. hits hard with production by RJD2 and robotic vocals by SoleSides’ Lyrics Born. Over a driving, busy break, “Explosive” is great for dancing or head nodding. On the reverse is the downtempo “Aint Right,” with a soulful, syncopated sample between Diverse’s tales of urban woe. This one reminds me of A Tribe Called Quest at their peak. I think back to a decade ago when I spent countless late nights listening to college hip-hop shows through my headphones back East. In other words, a future classic.
