Narita, 2006
I reviewed Ilar’s last 12-inch, Downhill, over a month ago. This CD compiles that EP with two others, and the result is a full-length of minimal techno bliss. My favorite cuts are “Sand (In Your Eyes),” a dark bass-heavy piece with a tech-house beat and a speaking cello, “A Day Ago,” with a beautiful melody imbedded in the blips, and the bonus track, a strong 303 acid jam. “Dawn” is a sweet, delicate ambient meditation. Of course I still love “Riding Metal Mosquitos” as well. This is a superb collection. Narita truly is injecting new life into the intelligent techno scene.
