Nonplace, 2002
On this release, electronic musician Burnt Friedman teams up with the drummer from Can for experiments in unusual time signatures. The result is a surprisingly jazzy collaboration, with laid-back dub elements falling into place over atmospheric layers of percussion. This album is amazingly cohesive, with each chilled-out track flowing into the next. It’s also great for summer listening, somehow managing to sound both airy and complex. Josef Suchy’s electric guitar blends into the background, while Morten Grønvad’s vibraphone flits effortlessly over top. It’s worth tracking down.
