Chocolate Industries, 2002
You’ve got to give it up to Chocolate Industries for having such tight production on their 12″s these days. I still can’t stop spinning the DJ Spinna remix of “360º” or the RJDJ remix of “Wylin Out.” “Certified” and “Build” are equally intoxicating. The former has a funky guitar and keyboard break with Diverse dropping big words that often go together, even if they don’t tell a story. The B-side is even better, with a thick, jazzy piano lick over smooth bass. The lyrics hang together better, and Diverse’s flow is fast and crisp. Chocolate Industries is starting to build a really solid roster of hip-hoppers. Don’t let these singles pass you by.
