Skam, 2002
This is Freeform’s best album to date, which is saying a lot. The music here’s positively ecstatic. And unique. Deep bass, and a mixture of exotic and familiar sounds cause the tracks to literally call out. “Crumble” sounds like an old calliope. Then come the voices. There are big beats and complicated melodies here as well. Some of these tracks are reminiscent of Audiotourism: Vietnam and China. The range of instruments available to Pyke certainly increased after his travels. Now he’s taking listeners with him into territory electronic music’s never been before.
