Future Days, 2006
Shadowlands EP is a deep techno 12-inch from a brand new UK label. “Dark Star” fills the A-side at 45 RPM. A single long horn note acts as a call to arms. Rumbling beats gradually gain treble accompaniment. The B-side is pressed at 33 RPM. “Heavy Water” has a Chain Reaction feel, with atmospheric reverb and a clipped beat. “Red Giant” is noisier, with pulses and hisses within layers of percussion. I wish it were longer—it fades out just as it gets going. This is strong, heavy, dark material that’s perfect for late-night listening. While the record is supposedly by a mystery producer, there are clues.
