Areal, 2005
Lovers of solid techno, rejoice! This LP from Metope brings back memories of old Speedy J. It’s German 4-on-the-floor with a Detroit flavor, combining minimalism and catchy grooves with the occasional odd noise. From the electronic chirps of “Rebird” to more straight-forward cuts like “Superimbat” (cold washes of delay) and “33” (Pole crackles, gongs, and deep bass), this is an enjoyable album. Sometimes I feel like headphone listening has left me too out of touch with the dancefloor. It’s refreshing to hear another release that spans both worlds.
