Forté’s music is difficult to describe. But it is good. On the opening track, “I Dream Again,” layers of texture and broken beats sandwich surprisingly gentle melodies that pan from channel to channel. Although the rest of the tracks are short, there are plenty of musical ideas to spare. Even the more abstract compositions manage to sound fresh and interesting.
Forté was apparently inspired by old punk records, but the influence is subtle. In fact, the length of the tracks and an occasional harsh burst of noise are the only evidence of his musical past. Clocking in at thirty-three minutes, Forté’s first solo release is more of a mini-LP. Lets hope this album’s success leads to longer works.
